Saving to KBase
netXtract allows you to save specific contexts from any HTML document displayed in IE's main window.
Everything that you save from Web documents using netXtract is stored into a local file on your
computer, called the Knowledge Base. Each saved piece is called a Knowledge Base Entry.
You have two options to save a new Knowledge Base entry:
- from the Context tab, right-click in the context of interest, and select "Save to KBase" from the pop-up menu.
- select (highlight) any text in the IE browser window, right click on that text and select "Save to Kbase"
from the pop-up menu.
Either way, you will be presented with a dialog where you should enter the title of the new entry,
a list of keywords (separated by spaces or commas) and a category.
If there is no category available or applicable for the new entry, press the Create category button
and a small window will pop up, where you can enter the name for the new category and a parent
category (this allows you to create hierarchies of categories, such as Computing, with subcategories
Software and Hardware).
It is important that you choose or create a relevant category for the new entry, as well as enter
descriptive and relevant keywords, since this will make it much easier for you to find the entries
you need later on.
Note that you can also modify the text of the entry (which is the text that you have selected from
the Web document currently loaded in IE); this allows you to improve the format the text and add your
own comments.
After you have completed all the required fields, the Save button becomes active. Click it to save
the new entry in your personal Knowledge Base.
